I think its the or something..

I recieved this a few days ago...

Marie-Claire,
It's Jay from Happy Harbor in Edmonton. I'm not sure if you're familiar with what I've started with "Comic Talks" but here's a quick rundown. Comic Talks is a series of panel discussions about, well, comics; the people who love them, make them or build their lives around them. Last year we host 6 panels at the store with nearly 24 different guests. After the shows, which we recorded, we transcribed the videos and then published a book to help preserve the discussions and act as a "self-help" tool for comic fans everywhere.
More about it can be found on our website which is currently under construction but the book info is here http://www.happyharborcomics.com/library/page_comic_talks_05_book.htm
This year, we have moved the talks in with a local convention called Pure Speculation on the weekend of Oct 14 & 15. On the afternoon of Oct 15, we are hold a Web Comics panel and I would like to invite you to be a part of that panel. Others on the panel will include Rudi Gunther of "Deathworld" and Richard Barkman and Kevin Sole of "Twice Thursday" (all comics we promote, along with yours, on the HH website). We panel is scheduled from 3 pm to 6 pm (about 2 hours for discussion and a last hour for mingling, selling any product you might have, etc.) and I feel that you would be a major asset to the show, bringing a woman's and gamers' aspect to the panel.
I hope you can join us and if you require any further information, please give me a shout. Hope your ear is doing better.

Jay

I have accepted said invitation - if any of you should be in the edmonton area come october 15 in the afternoon come hear me talk - with some other cool people about webcomics. Tickets are completely reasonable.

http://www.purespeculation.org/

I sort of expect it to be me and like 4 people in the audiance... ah well come join me:)

Today is the last day of my year contract with the old QC. I'm kinda sad to leave, mainly cause I'll miss the people and the slackness of the job. But its not what I want to do, I want to be making more money and I want to start my career. Yesterday I signed the papers to do that. I will be working for Eagle. They are an IT placement agency. I'm starting a career as a recruiter. I'm getting paid better and there are more benefits and perks. I feel its finally a step in the right direction instead of a sideways step. Funny thing is that a year ago I couldn't get this job. Things are going well... Kyle and I have plans and these plans a least seem realisable.. Travel, newer car.. working down some debt..

Oh and I'm going to ottawa for work next week - crazy!

Note.. busy busy busy over the next few days assignmets to finish up course and comics for when I'm away and many many other things:)

This is a response to what a friend wrote in his LJ – He brought up some things happening in the world, about overpopulation and how our planet can’t sustain the ever growing stress on it.

There is a scientist who wanted to use Ebola to cut down the earth’s population, a very painful horrible death that would take three or so days as my friend put it –“Basically your internal organs slowly decay and liquify, until you rot to death.” Yups that would be pretty, 90% of the world populations dying painfully and horribly – the media has nicknamed this scientist Dr. Doom. This brought up a conversation on what population control have been in place – Well China for one has put a limit on the amount of childlets a couple can have – at 1. The Chinese culture though puts an emphasis on males and so in the modern age of technology the Chinese are choosing to have more men then women… I have this to say about that…..

Populations will go down if there are more men then women... I took this as part of a study in Evolutionary Psychology. Even in poly-relationship situations there is a finite amount of children women can produce. Let just say a pairing of a woman and a man can only have one child. and we have the person in the situation have a crazy number like ten partners at once.

- The only side effect that the Chinese government has found is more gangs have been developing – my guess is sexually frustrated youth lol.

There are drive in the human brain developed from millions of years of evolution that say certain things. Human "nature" still dictates our lives. Here is an example.... Fatty foods, sugar - junk food, red meat - other foods like McDonalds - that ingested in large quantities make the body unhealthy. We (for the most part with a few exceptions) as a species crave these unhealthy things. Why? in today’s society of nutrition and health awareness we need very little actual fat to be healthy. Yet some people will wake up in the morning have steak and eggs cheese burger for lunch and pot roast for dinner. Our brains crave it. Because a million years ago our ancestors survived because they had a craving for some meat. If you craved meat you got meat(fat) and you survived – it’s a better source of energy for the human body a little goes a long way. How do we know this happens, because of natural selection things that weren’t adaptive – like not craving fat didn’t survive. Now Vegans and others may state that they don’t like meat or crave meat or whatever – but most likely they crave the junk food or fatty products – even if its vegetable in origin. How does this apply to people, population and why we do the things we do? Simple..

Humans are Social beings, we exist in a very social and diverse world of status, reproduction and drives. Why do men (typically – not talking about persons that prefer other things sexually – not the minority but the majority in all these case – multitudes – a topic for another day *very interesting but yes a topic for another day) prefer young attractive females? And women prefer men with money? Or power? Or both? Or with muscles? It can all be traced back to days when survival of your genetics (not that people thought about it like that) was more likely if a guy hooked up with a young attractive female – because they were more likely to survive and thus their genetics were good – and children born from that relationship were more likely to survive. Women choose men who are more able to take care of them and any offspring. You know what its like – they call it gold digging but it’s just as valid as a man being attracted to a hot young thing. If you want evidence of this look at two men and their lovely wives Trump and his new wife and Bill gate and his wife. This whole situation going on in our brains and in the social sphere of the world can cause a few problems in a modern world. First, women are more likely to be successful and powerful in a social way – what does this mean? It can cause conflict – women typically will seek out success as a choice in mate – someone of comparable or higher success to themselves (mostlikely higher) but what if the women is at the upper level of achievement? It can cause a lot of stress to the relationship because the women feels (unconsciously mind you) that the man must be more successful. Just because of millions of years tell us this is true – why wouldn’t our brains resist. Is this problem anymore valid then the man who divorces his wife – or demands she get plastic surgery because she has some wrinkles.. Well of course not. I think that there needs to be more realization of how evolution has affected us. We are the products of our genetics and must realize this if we are to go against the formerly adaptive now potentially harmful things our brains are telling us to do.

Like gorge ourselves on fat…

Coming soon : Gentlemen prefer blondes? Women prefer Assholes (or pricks, dicks, bastards – all other names for jerks)?

Both former room-mates of mine. I found it a little odd at first now I'm like awwwwwww... Unfortunatly I'm going to have to break knee caps if there is a break up.

I gave blood yesterday.. And then ran 2 kilometers. now I am pale and sickly looking.. but honestly I haven't felt better in weeks.. I don't think I will try that stunt again but... I feel better in general.

House and mortgage docs - signing soon. Its really the nicest thing I have ever owed. It feels like I have never had enough money to buy nice things... House *sigh* I heart you. And I'm so happy I'm doing this with Kyle - I don't think I would want to with anyone else in the world.

My comic is going strong.. though I haven't been consistantly working on it like I should - this could lead to disaster down the road.. For the WOW fans in the audiance check out todays.

Imperium this weekend... I'm excited.

We are going to Kyle's parents place tonight they want to talk about "Furniture"... This will probably involve them telling us we are getting something - that we either don't want and haven't asked for.. or something we can use. Sorry been pretty pressimistic with the Parents in Law recently. Many promises left unfullfilled.

Flames going for the cup... ah more watching hockey and drinking of the beer..
House has been delayed... I'm not surprised but it caused a bit of stress over the last little while until we relized that our land lord is awsome and will rent month to month to us. SWEET! So June hopefully for calling everyone out to move!

Actively searching for a new job as this one is three months away from ending. Its been great here, the people are awsome - but I need to get my career going.. Looking for an entry level human resources position/ recruitment. If anyone hears about anything let me know.

Caffine is my new best friend. I'm sure its not healthy but I enjoy my life alot more when I have energy to live it. The science behind caffine is really simple. Caffine emulates a neurotransmitter in your brain that moves between synapses. While moving a long a neuron information is passed relitively quickly do to chemical electric transferance. But when the signal has to transfer from one neuron to another the signal must be transfered indirectly by flooding the space between the neurons with chemicals telling the snapse on the other side that the signal is being passed on. The more chemicals the more easily stimulated the next neuron will be. Enter caffine. Having a lack of chemicals or low amounts is results in other things like depression and anxiety - anti-depressants are typically ssri's selective seritonan reuptake inhibitors. stopping th reuptake of seritonin (a neurotansmitter) leaving more in the gap between neurons making it easier to transfer signals - making things less slow.. or depressed. Unfortunatly the side effects are more or less bad for you - the main one (other then the sexual sideeffects - loss of libedo) is no REM sleep. REM Rapid Eye Movement sleep is the phase of your sleep cycle where your brain processes things that have not been stored in long term memory. Its like the defrag for your brain - usually accompanies by crazy dreams. Your brain needs to process un placed information, Alchol and SSRI's (antidepressants) do not allow for this to happen.

Are Anti-depressants addictive? Well... taken this example you hurt your foot - if you could drive around all day in a golf cart not really needing to walk anywhere because your foot is hurt... would you become more or less lethargic by the end of your foot being healed? Its not that they are necessarily addictive.. but given the choice would you walk or ride in a golf cart. Thats your brain.. its gotten used to having the golf cart. It still has to move alittle bit - turn the wheel press on the gas but it certainly doesn't have to walk. Take away the brains golf cart - suddenly it has to walk again - its a little slower then it use to be. Maybe its put on some weight and just can't get going as well. Is it easier to just go back on Anti-depressants then try to build your brain to the level of performance it was before - hell yes its easier. So Anti-depressants aren't addictive just once you start it makes it easier to keep going.

What does all this mean? and why am I going off on a tangent? Well I've made the conscious decision that my life is better with caffine in it. I'm more creative and less fricken tired. Caffine is not as bad as antidepressants but they both function effectively as stimulants. I will probably never go back to not using caffine - its a slippery slope but I like life better this way.

Nightwatch was awsome. Its full of fun effects, and a very neat take on a world with a light vs dark battle going on. I hope that it is not like the matrix in that the first movie was awsome and the next two fell short. Kyle said very aptly this is what we were hoping for with underworld. I have a whole new respect for the ability of Russian cinima. Not that I'm like a movie historian but the BattleShip Potemkan showed the greatness of Russian Film, I think this movie just surpassed it. Amazing visuals and a wicked plot, very impressive acting from the little boy to the old women at the begining of the movie.

Watch it!

Anyways I have to run!

I'm back playing wow again... A friend did a really cool thing and is lending us a compy for the next few months until the stress of the house and everything finicially is more stable enough for us to be able to afford another computer. having two working computers helps because it means that I am not restricted time wise to getting my comic done between the hours of 5-6 and whenever I can get the computer. Its kind of amazing I've been able to work as much as I have been on my comic before this point. Now I can get on whenever I need to. Which reduces the little stress that was in K's and I marriage...

But I need to be self motivated to go through our stuff and purge. Kyle has been having troubles with this idea. He doesn't see anything we need to get rid of, but I know that we can slim the amount of stuff we have to enable easier moving. (no I will not touch your books)

Then after the purge or during the purge - start the packing process. We don't know when we will be moving but it would be nice to pack slowly over the next month or so getting boxes set aside that we wont use right away (ie. christmas supplies, and the like.)

Other news my new style starts friday... woo. and my webpage is looking wicked.

Going to a movie tonight with a really good friend.

The Bad, I need to find a new real job soon and its scaring me.

The Ugly, I got into a verbal scuffle with a friend over nothing important at all. I get really intense sometimes over things that have no consequence on my real life and put alot of passion behind them. I fear I may have hurt or pissed off this friend. Who since we have been hanging out in Calgary has mean't alot to me, and I would hate for this to have any long lasting effects on our friendships.

I'm sorry.

Okay so as lame as this sounds a few months ago (possibly about the time I started doing my webcomic)I made it my goal that when you searched my now married name on google you would find a link about me, or something related to me. There were a few links about my maiden name but none about Marie-Claire Gould. Now that day has come. I feel pretty good about that.

For those of you that haven't been to my webpage in a while... or those that visit all the time. I need your help. I want to change the colour scheme, something that doesn;t scream depression... (DARK blues and blacks...)

What I need help with is: all of you take a look and give suggestions here or in person or something. I will be trying out a new color scheme hopefully when my new style hits. NEXT WEEK - I know you have all been breathlessly waiting. Crying at night in a cornor of your room because you haven't seen it yet. Well cry no longer! In ONE WEEK TIME the new style hits.

Over excitable much.

That webpage again... http://www.willworkforgames.com

Other news my best friend is moving to japan... gosh I hope she brings me back some CC Lemon for Kyle.

I don't really know how many of you visit my site on a regular basis. I don't mind if you don't. Just sometimes I will point out rather funny things that have happened in my world. Because I want to share.

Recently I added googleAds to my site, in the hopes of generating some moneys to pay for a different site host (not that I don't appreciate the charity from ya jason) but so I can stop feeling like a mooch. And possibly money to get some great webdesigner person to make my site sexy. If you don't already know, google ad's is fairly interactive. It scans your site for things written in it, then place an ad from the results. Currently I have a vacation ad, something about fairies, and two garden gnome ads. ---- I think they need to make the AI smarter. Maybe recognise when something like WOW or World of Warcraft is on the page I'm not talking about garden accessories.

So if you are really into garden gnomes go click on some ads and earn me some moneys. *lol*

http://www.willworkforgames.com

I did my webpage, its pretty simple right now, not much different the the standard coding and html that that walrus provided me with but its working. I have been able to in one day move down the crazy list of webpage needs pretty far. I'm exhusted, and I spent all this time working getting the webpage going, I haven't done my required work on my comics. I'm still proud of myself and my ability to make something look coolish and function in the way I want it to. I have to admit I'm no longer afraid of html or php, I can work with it. I don't know what it all does but it works so its good.

So if you want to check out the new site...

http://www.willworkforgames.com

on the plus side I will probably stop posting sooo much about my comic on here, as my news section is working.

---Oh hey C sorry about the movie, it was totally sold out at chinook, couldn't get a hold of you... went home and built a website.

*yawn* bedtime..

Well not really but I'm trying it out. I found this what seems like wicked free code called walrus. It should help me do what I want to do with the wwfg's site. I have a heirarchy of needs for the site and need to start moving down the list.

-Easy site posting of comic (most important)
-Site looking Purdy.
-Site able to have News (blogged or otherwise) and contact information
-Site to have a workable archive system so that peoples can find my comics from the past.
-Site have advertisements (so I can eventually afford my own server space to stop bumming it off a friend - not that I don't appreciate it)
-Merchandise cause I want my own t-shirt damnit.

After these I think I will be happy with the site. Lacy has been able to so get me to number two, but past that I can't damand the amount of time it could take to get any farther down that list of anyone but myself.

If this walrus is the program for me I will of course let you all know about its coolness so you can run and make your own webcomics too!!!! Yeah! Or something. I hope so, I really would like it if my site was able to do all the things I need it to do.

Weekend goal: Clean up one comic, Start-Finish another. (love new style makes me happy to use it.)
